Operating principle

  1. The rainwater from the area to be drained is introduced into the lower shaft section of the metal roof filter.
  2. Here, sedimentation of particles, especially of the sand fraction, takes place in a hydrodynamic separator due to turbulent secondary flows in a radial, laminar flow regime. This process protects the substrates of the metal roof filter from premature colmation.
  3. The sediments are collected via an opening in the lower part of the cleaning shaft in a sludge bucket below the system, which can be removed for cleaning and emptied via an outlet.
  4. The filter element of the metal roof filter is located in the center of the cleaning shaft; with this filter element, the fines are filtered in the upflow process and a large part of the dissolved pollutants are adsorptively bound; the filter can be easily replaced in the event of complete silting.
  5. Overflow pipe and emergency overflow of the metal roof filter
  6. Drainage of purified water into the downstream system (infiltration, rainwater storage, etc.)

This type of filter works by the upflow method, so there is hardly any difference in height from the inlet to the outlet. The purified water has an excellent water quality. In the filter shaft, the rainwater is purified by the following basic procedural operations: sedimentation, adsorption, filtration and chemical precipitation.
